Especially for the martial arts, where all of the supporting muscles, balance, and coordination become very important.

Funny, I just blogged about this today! : http://ironmom.blogspot.com/2011/01/priceless.htmlRobinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17297237900094898777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1207690385508451259.post-50956208970243099872011-01-10T11:15:23.804-08:002011-01-10T11:15:23.804-08:00Combo for me. I like that the machines isolate specific muscles (like my pecs and deltoids, which were really weak after reconstructive surgeries) while helping with the old flexibility - without a spotter. Free weights let me do things that the machines won't (lunges, for example) while forcing me to control the weight after the lift which builds strength. My gym membership is super cheap ($10 a month) - and I really need to go as I don't have a treadmill (hard to run outside in the snow - which is all we got this time of year), bench or mirrors at home.Feliciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09017194727231120284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1207690385508451259.post-42239502044452187702011-01-10T09:36:01.846-08:002011-01-10T09:36:01.846-08:00Free weights, if you count my body as a weight. It wasn't until my DH discovered bodybuilding.com and their fabulous exercise database (you should take a look if you're not already familiar with it) that I really converted to free weights.

We too have cancelled our gym membership and are training at home now. I might have to consider investing in that book!

xMx.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03272574764983174076noreply@blogger.com
