As the root style of shukokai karate is shito ryu most of the kata we do would be familiar to a shito ryu stylist. They are all Okinawan in origin and are a mixture of Shuri te and Naha te kata (Kenwa Mabuni, founder of shito ryu, trained in both branches of Okinawan karate). Most of our kyu grade kata are Shuri te (or Tomari te)in origin with the exception of Seienchin which would also be known by most Goju ryu stylists. In the dan grades our kata are a mix of Shuri te and Naha te in origin. All of our katas can be traced back to the original Okinawan karate masters such as Matsumura, Itosu and Mabuni.Sue Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16008609198511182782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1207690385508451259.post-70711554954616919612011-03-19T17:48:48.506-07:002011-03-19T17:48:48.506-07:00Sounds like you're approaching your training w...Sounds like you're approaching your training wisely. Overtraining can hinder, not help, your progress if you're not careful.

I've been meaning to ask, how many katas are there in your system? Are there any unique to your particular club, style or teacher?Journeymanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00146093025259375890noreply@blogger.com
